The Archer is a wheeled 155 mm self-propelled howitzer, jointly developed by Bofors and BAE Systems. Development of the Archer began in 1995. BAE Systems mounted the 155 mm FH-77 gun system on the rear of a modified Volvo VME A25C (6 × 6) chassis. Compared to conventional self-propelled howitzers, the Archer's conversion time to work was reduced from 10 minutes to just 30 seconds. The first officially commissioned vehicle was delivered around October 2011. Each Archer system requires a crew of 3-4 people, a significant improvement over the 10-12 people required for previous towed howitzers.
