The M1278 Heavy Guns Carrier is an armored wheeled vehicle of the US Army from the JLTV (Joint Light Tactical Vehicle) family, developed by Oshkosh Defense to replace the outdated Humvee. The M1278 modification is specially optimized as a heavy weapons carrier and is equipped with a protected turret (M153 CROWS or protected ring turret carriage) for a large-caliber M2 .50 cal machine gun, an automatic grenade launcher Mk 19 or ATGM TOW. The vehicle is distinguished by a high level of ballistic and mine protection (V-shaped bottom and CORE 1080 capsule), an adjustable TAK-4i pneumatic-hydraulic suspension for extreme off-road conditions and a powerful diesel engine, which provides a combination of the protection of a heavy MRAP-type vehicle with the mobility of a light SUV.
